Badlands
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Badlandsin on ohjelmoinut todella paljon surkeita pelejä suoltanut Teque. Alkukuva on kerrassaan kaamea, eikä ainakaan nosta odotuksia. Peli onkin sitten aluksi iloinen yllätys, retuperällä olevaa audiopuolta lukuunottamatta. Pelattavuus on ihan ok, grafiikka on mukiinmenevää eikä pahoja töppejä näy.
1991 KevätThe classic Super Sprint, whose ST home version earns full marks and whose other versions earn a roasting, has come back in Atari's arcade game Badlands.
Badlands is, as Super Sprint games always are, a top-down racing game whose most striking features are very small graphics and a race track with four cars scurrying round it. The aim is to be first across the line and to pick up as much of the junk that appears on the track as you can. In Badlands you can also take potshots at your fellow competitors, and you can go head to head with a mate too.
Badlands was programmed by Teque, who have churned out a truly large number of dismal games. The title screen is downright ghastly and certainly doesn't raise expectations. So the game turns out to be a pleasant surprise at first, apart from the audio side, which is in a sorry state. The playability is perfectly OK, the graphics are passable and there are no bad blunders in sight.
But heaven help you once you get a bit further into the game. However much you tune up your car, the computer-driven cars tear to the finish at such a staggering speed that all you can do is tear your hair out. Bringing a mate along doesn't change a thing. A few tracks go quite nicely, until all of a sudden the computer's cars start zooming round like mad. That's where your progress grinds to a halt, and so does your interest in the game.
