Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1991 SyksyJos on olemassa joku, joka ei ole Terminatoria nähnyt, niin voi raukkaa! Kysymyksessähän on paitsi Arnold Schwarzeneggerin läpilyönti-elikuva myös yksi kaikkien aikojen parhaimpia scifi/toimintapätkiä.
Pelaaja voi valita alter egokseen joko T-800-mallin Terminatorin tai Kyle Reesen, jolloin lopullinen päämäärä luonnollisesti on joko Sarah Connorin reittäminen tai Terminatorin terminoiminen. Kaksi pelaajaa voi linkittää koneensa kaapelin avulla.
Itse pelissä pelaaja dumpataan San Franciscoon, ja tarkoitus on löytää aseita, rahaa, muita varusteita ja Sarah Connor. Autoja voi kaappailla matkan jouduttamiiseen, ja autoissa on jopa käsi- tai automaattivaihteet. Optoita ja toimintoja riittää kymmeneen kevyempään peliin. Aseita muun muuassa on lukuisia erilaisia aina pyssyistä Stinger-ohjuksiin.
Raa'at pelaajat voivat ammuskella siviilejä, jolloin pieni animaatio näyttää kuolevia ihmisiä, tai jopa ajaa autolla päälle digitoidun rääkäisyn kera. Piristävää, vaikka kukkahattutädit tietysti huolestuvat.
Mutta sitten mennäänkin metsään niin että rytisee. Ensinnäkin neula löytyy heinäsuovasta huomattavasti helpommin kuin Sarah Connor San Franciscosta, ja toisekseen pelin suunnittelu jättää rutkasti toivomisen varaa. 3D-vektorigrafiikan on ohjelmoinut joku rähmäkäpälä, sillä jopa 25 Mhz:n 386:ssa se on kankeaa ja nyppivää. Toisekseen hiiren olemassaolo on unohdettu täysin, joten ampuminen on todella kankeaa, ja esimerkiksi karttaa käytetään kursorinappuloilla, herra J.!. Pelaamista voi simuloida sillä, että pistät kaverin toiselle puolelle kaupunkia ja menet itse toiselle puolelle. Sitten kaverisi välttelee sinua ja sinä haet. Eri jännää, nicht war?
Peli alkaa toistaa itseään jo pienen pelailun jälkeen, ja sitten pelin hylkää sanomatta "I'll be back".
1991 SyksyIf there's anyone out there who hasn't seen Terminator, oh, the poor soul! After all, it's not only Arnold Schwarzenegger's breakthrough film but also one of the best sci-fi/action flicks of all time.
The player can choose as an alter ego either the T-800 model Terminator or Kyle Reese, in which case the ultimate goal is naturally either perforating Sarah Connor or terminating the Terminator. Two players can link their machines with a cable.
In the game itself the player is dumped in San Francisco, and the idea is to find weapons, money, other equipment and Sarah Connor. You can hijack cars to speed your journey along, and the cars even come with a manual or automatic gearbox. There are enough options and functions for ten lighter games. Among other things there are numerous different weapons, all the way from guns to Stinger missiles.
Brutal players can pick off civilians, in which case a small animation shows people dying, or even run them over with a car, complete with a digitised shriek. Refreshing, though of course the pearl-clutching busybodies will get worried.
But then it all goes pear-shaped with a crash. Firstly, a needle is found in a haystack considerably more easily than Sarah Connor in San Francisco, and secondly the game's design leaves a great deal to be desired. The 3D vector graphics were programmed by some ham-fisted clod, because even on a 25 MHz 386 they're sluggish and irritating. Secondly, the existence of the mouse has been completely forgotten, so shooting is really clumsy, and the map, for example, is operated with the cursor keys, Mr J.! You can simulate playing it by putting a friend on one side of town and going to the other side yourself. Then your friend avoids you and you search. Dead exciting, nicht war?
The game starts repeating itself after just a little play, and then you abandon it without saying "I'll be back".
