1991 SyksyTerminator 2 The Judgement Day

1991 SyksyVaikka kuinka yritimme ei Terminator 2 ehtinyt ilmestyä ennen Pelikirjan painoonmenoa. Tämä arvostelu pohjautuu lyhyeen demoon, lehdistömateriaaliin sekä siihen, mitä Ocean esitteli European Computer Showssa. Siksi arvosanoja ei ole annettu.
Peli alkaa beat'em-up-jaksolla, jossa T-800:n täytyy pysyä hengissä tietty aika voittamatonta T-1000:tta vastaan. Lukuunottamatta isoja spritejä kysymyksessä on tuikitavallinen hakkauspeli.
Kolmannessa osassa on mahdollisuus kerätä lisäenergiaa korjaamalla Arnoldin käsi puzzle-tyyliin paloja liu'uttamalla. Neljäs osio on sivultapäin kuvattu Sarah Connorin pako mielisairaalasta vapauteen.
Kuusnelosversio ilmestyy muuten moduulina.
1991 SyksyTry as we might, Terminator 2 didn't come out in time before Pelikirja went to press. This review is based on a short demo, press material and what Ocean showed at the European Computer Show. That's why no grades have been given.
The game begins with a beat'em-up section in which the T-800 has to stay alive for a set time against the invincible T-1000. Apart from the big sprites, this is a perfectly run-of-the-mill punch-up game. In the next part you ride a motorbike for an eternity with John Connor on the back seat and the T-1000 behind you in a truck. The screen scrolls vertically and somehow Spyhunter comes to mind.
In the third part you get the chance to pick up extra energy by repairing Arnold's arm puzzle-style, sliding pieces around. Admittedly this scene belongs to the first film, but the programmer just had to have it in. The fourth section is Sarah Connor's escape from the mental hospital to freedom, seen from the side. The hospital is a maze, and there are guards to beat up too.
Then the T-800 and the T-1000 fight again, and next you repair Arnold's face in the hope of extra energy. The game continues with a battle against the SWAT squad in the Cyberdyne Systems laboratory, in the style of level four but spiced up with shooting. Level eight is Spyhunter-style rallying again, in the SWAT van, with the T-1000 on your tail in a helicopter. The section ends if Sarah manages to shoot the chopper down. And in the final part the T-800's metal frame and the T-1000 beat'em-up each other one last time.
The graphics in the action sections don't look like anything special, but at least there are digitised pictures from the film.
Even so, Terminator 2 sounds as if a) it's at the top of every chart and b) it's a collection of old clichés. The Commodore 64 version, by the way, is coming out on cartridge.
