Darkman

Amiga-Darkman-peli on jälleen hypi-pompi-beat'em up suurimman osan aikaa, yhden tason sisältäessä helikopterista roikkumista. Darkmanin kykyä valmistaa tietokoneella naamareita (a la Mission:Impossible) on heikosti hyödynnetty valokuvaus-alipelillä.

1991 SyksyThe classic Evil Dead films earned Sam Raimi a set of spurs and the chance to make a zippy Hollywood spectacular. Darkman is the story of a scientist trying to develop artificial skin. However, he ends up the underdog against a pack of gangsters, who blow up his laboratory, and him along with it. The scientist survives nonetheless, his face burned beyond recognition and every one of his nerves of touch damaged. He wants (all together now) R-E-V-E-N-G-E!

The film's worst flaw is that it never quite holds together and doesn't know how to make use of its own oddities, but Raimi's undeniable genius still serves the viewer a tasty hour and a half. At the box office, though, Darkman sank fast without leaving a trace.

Ocean doesn't let you down. The Amiga Darkman game is once again a hippety-hoppety beat'em up most of the time, with one level consisting of dangling from a helicopter. Darkman's ability to make masks on a computer (a la Mission:Impossible) has been feebly exploited in a photography sub-game. The more successful snaps of the villain you get, the longer Darkkis gets to be left in peace at the start of the next level.

Nor does Ocean let you down on the technical side, which is standard, reasonably solid Ocean quality graphically, sonically and playability-wise alike.

The Commodore 64 version otherwise follows the same lines, but you start to wonder whether there's some other game underneath, since in the 64 Darkman there suddenly appear - what else - ninjas, who naturally weren't in the film. Technically the Commodore 64 version was pleasing, especially considering the machine's capacity.

Ocean's licence games are familiar, safe and free of any particularly unusual ideas. I suppose that's why they sell so well.
