Batman - The Movie
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Viitososa on kilpajuoksu katedraalin huipulle ykkösosion tyyliin.
1990 KevätThe Bat-renaissance begun by Frank Miller culminates in the film directed by Keaton and the Bat-junk hysteria it has set off. The film, which draws heavily on Moore-Bolland's Killing Joke, is admittedly pretty good, but not worth all the fuss it has caused.
Roughly speaking, the film deals with a small-time crook named Jack Napier turning into the psychotic Joker and his attempt to gas Gotham City with Smilex poison gas, and it ends in an excellent duel on the roof of a cathedral. Ocean got the licence to make a game of it, which no doubt brought smiles to faces, since the game is, after all, a guaranteed hit.
In the way already so familiar from Ocean, the game's five sections follow the plot of the film. First up are the chemical plant and the pursuit of Jack Napier. The usual platform-climbing-and-shooting is livened up by the Bat-rope, which works almost the same way as the famous arm in Bionic Commando. In part two the C-64 crowd tear along horizontally and the Amiga owners Outrun-style in the Batmobile, and the Bat-rope can be thrown round a lamp post to help with quick turns. In the third section you analyse the Joker's poison, and in the fourth you cut the ropes of poison balloons with the Batwing, Afterburner/Space Harrier style on the Amiga and from a bird's-eye view on the C-64. Part five is a race to the top of the cathedral in the style of part one.
The execution of the C-64 version is, both graphically and aurally, the usual Ocean quality, for better and for worse. Batman himself is a nice-looking combination of a hi-res sprite and a multicolour sprite, while the quality of the other sprites varies. The main complaint is the punchless sound effects, in place of which you can listen to nondescript background music. On the Amiga the maze sections are on the difficult side, since the extra power has been put to use by cramming too many sprites into the level.
Batman serves up a bundle of good old ideas in an attractive package, with Ocean once again managing to capture a film in binary numbers. Somehow it's hard to think of anything else to say.
