1991 SyksyRanskalaisen Paul Cuissetin kehittelemä Cinematique-systeemi sai alkunsa graafisesti upeasta, mutta sisällöltään pelkistetystä Future Warsista, kehittyi sierramaiseen suuntaan Operation Stealthissa ja kolmas kehitelmä Cruise for a Corpse vie systeemiä vielä askelman pidemmälle.
Juonen runkona on perinteinen Agatha Christie -henkinen murhamysteerio.
Hahmolla on muutenkin taipumus esittää vinkkejä ympäristöä kommentoimalla.
Siinä on ilmeisesti käytetty eräänlaista vektorigrafiikkaa. Liikkeiden sulavuudessa on vain menty turhankin pitkälle, sillä miekkonen on rasittavan hidas liikkeissään.
Pelin pahin vika on siinä, että luvattoman paljon peliajasta kuluu turhaan harhailuun ja ihmettelyyn. Murhajutuissa on muutenkin hankalinta päästä alkuun, eli keksiä mikä on olennaista ja mikä ei. Älyä vaativista haasteista pitäville pitkäpinnaisille Ruumisristeily on silkkaa mannaa.
1991 SyksyThe Cinematique system developed by the Frenchman Paul Cuisset had its beginnings in Future Wars, graphically superb but spare in content, evolved in a Sierra-like direction in Operation Stealth, and the third development, Cruise for a Corpse, takes the system yet another step further.
The backbone of the plot is a traditional Agatha Christie-style murder mystery. Inspector Raoul Dusentier's Mediterranean cruise isn't spent waxing his moustache and lounging under a parasol, since the host gets bludgeoned to death and the culprit has to be rooted out. In practice this is done mainly by rummaging for clues, eavesdropping on conversations and interrogating the other guests.
The playing area is a mere five-deck tub, but even that has more than enough to rummage through. Admittedly, the places are mostly crammed with pointless junk, which you sniff at by clicking with the pointer, whereupon a menu of options pops up. If there's nothing sensible to be done, the inspector often kindly announces the item required, be it a size 14 screwdriver or whatever. The character also has a general tendency to drop hints by commenting on his surroundings.
Right down to the opening intro, the game's execution is in an entirely different class from earlier Cinematique products, and it approaches the Lucasfilm style. The most remarkable thing is the hero's animation as he walks towards the player, since he grows until he finally fills the whole screen. Some sort of vector graphics has evidently been used for it. They've just gone rather too far with the smoothness of movement, since the chap is tiresomely slow in his movements.
The game's worst fault is that an inexcusable amount of playing time goes on pointless wandering and head-scratching. With murder cases the hardest part is getting started anyway, i.e. working out what's relevant and what isn't. For patient souls who enjoy challenges that demand brainpower, Cruise for a Corpse is pure manna.
