Kolmennessa kentässä Buford Tannenin joukkio saartaa Martyn, jonka on osuttava jokaiseen joukon jäseneen kolme kertaa piirakkalautasilla.
Audiopuoli tarjoaa kohtalaisia versioita vanhoista klassisista lännenelokuva-tunnusmusiikeista.
1991 SyksyThe adventures of Marty and the professor in time just keep on rolling. Now the pals have shot off to the Wild West, where they come up against Indians, gunslingers and locomotives (?).
At the end of the second part of the trilogy, the DeLorean time machine flung the professor 70 years back in time, leaving Marty stuck in 1955. The local postal service, however, outdoes itself and delivers Marty a letter from 1885. In the letter the professor says he is living a happy life as a blacksmith. He forbids Marty to come and fetch him, but still tells him where he has hidden the time machine. The DeLorean turns up in an abandoned mine shaft. Nearby, Marty finds a gravestone engraved with the professor's name and a date of death just a few days after the date on the letter. So Marty sets off to rescue the prof from the past.
For lack of action, the film doesn't offer many openings for making a game, but Probe, who usually turn out sheer garbage, have lo and behold managed to cobble together a surprisingly good game. BTTF III is split into four levels that get harder towards the end. In the first level, as the prof, you have to ride down Clara Clayton's horse-drawn wagon, which bolting horses are carrying towards a ravine. Pull that off, and Clara becomes your lover.
The second level is a shooting gallery where the player blasts away at all sorts of targets and racks up points. In the third level Buford Tannen's gang surround Marty, who has to hit every member of the gang three times with pie plates. After that he faces Mad Dog himself, Buford Tannen. If the player survives even this, there's still one last level ahead, in which you try to get the DeLorean up to a high enough speed for the time jump by mounting it in front of a locomotive.
The game lets you practise levels two and three before the game proper. The pie-plate throwing in particular is quite exceptionally difficult because of the odd perspective and the way it plays, so practising pays off.
The visuals range in quality from average to good. The audio side offers passable versions of classic old western film theme tunes. All four sub-games are quite decent, although the plate throwing is far too hard. The sum of the parts doesn't lift the game out of mediocrity, though, so this game can only be recommended to those who liked the film and want to try their skills as Marty and the prof.
