Plotting

Tämän totuuden todisteena on se raivokas into, jolla palikkapelejä syydetään Tetriksen vanaveteen.

1991 KevätThe more fundamental the particle of reality you take up, the more you can vary it. Proof of this truth is the furious zeal with which block games are being churned out in Tetris's wake. Amazingly enough, Plotting doesn't directly resemble any of its models, although a certain deja vu is present from the very first glance.

So the idea is once again removing blocks, on a two-or-more-in-pairs-off-the-screen principle. The blocks sit in a lump in the corner of the screen, and at the side Pacman's little second cousin flails about, hurling the piece it's holding at the pile. If a matching piece or a row of them happened to be in line, then bingo, they're made to vanish and the one that was behind them is flung back as your new playing piece. The game ends if there's no match for the block you're holding and all the jokers have been used. You can also approach the pile from above, since the piece drops down when it hits the wall or the stepped ledge in the top corner. On the later levels the nuisances are incomplete steps and bits of pipe sprinkled about to clog up the level.

As an alternative to going solo you can challenge a friend or the computer, in which case the principle is much the same as in the Gameboy's Tetris. That is, if you manage to remove more than one block, stuff gets added to your pal's half of the screen. Once you've breezed through all the levels like they were nothing, you can knock together more of them with the help of the editor.

The idea isn't quite as ingenious as in Tetris, Blockout and Klax. Rather, it brings to mind Ra, Shanghai and other block solitaires, where the secret of success is the ability to see how the situation will play out in the future, whereas with Tetris's relatives you just have to be quick-witted. Still, you can't really be bothered to start pondering the nature of Plotting's piles, so play proceeds a bit by trial and error. Well, be that as it may, I won't be leaving it unplayed: relaxed entertainment, that is, but not quite the sharpest in the brain-game league.
