Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1991 KevätLine Of Fire on Segan Operation Wolf -klooni, jossa uutena ideana on vaihteleva liikkuminen, toisin sanoen pelkän sivu- tahi eteenpäin menon asemasta liikutaan jopa takaperin tai vinoittain. LOF:in kehystarina on parin jätkän pako.
Tuttuun tyyliin konekiväärit paukkuvat hiiriohjauksessa ja kranaatitkin lentelevät. Tason lopussa ilmestyy myös loppuhirviö, -helikopteri tai muu vastaava.
Näissä peleissä onnistuminen vaatii kunnon ohjelmointia, ja siinä LOF kangertelee. Amigan 32 värin paletista käytetään korkeintaan neljännes, ja muutenkin käytetty tekniikka muistuttaa epäonnistunutta Afterburner-käännöstä, siis legografiikkaa. Äänienkin pitäisi olla huimasti reippaampia synnyttääkseen vaadittavan overkill-tunnelman.
Positiivisessa hengessä voidaan kuitenkin todeta, että on LOF sentään pelattava. Menee lisämausteena kokoelmassa, muttei pysy omilla jaloillaan.
1991 KevätLine Of Fire is Sega's Operation Wolf clone, whose new idea is varied movement: in other words, instead of just going sideways or forwards, you even move backwards or diagonally. LOF's framing story is a couple of blokes making their escape.
In the familiar style, the machine guns rattle away under mouse control and grenades fly about too. At the end of a level there's also an end-of-level monster, end-of-level helicopter or some other such thing.
Success in games like these demands proper programming, and that's where LOF falters. At most a quarter of the Amiga's 32-colour palette gets used, and otherwise too the technique on show resembles a botched Afterburner conversion - Lego graphics, in other words. The sound ought to be a whole lot livelier as well to generate the required overkill atmosphere.
In a positive spirit, though, it can be noted that LOF is at least playable. It'll do as extra seasoning in a compilation, but it won't stand on its own two feet.
