Hellfire Attack

Kuusnelosversion pilaa aika tehokkaasti muutama seikka.

1989 KevätIt is the rule rather than the exception that when a big-league coin-op conversion is announced as coming onto the market, the clones get there first. Examples worth a mention include Druid/Gauntlet, P.O.W./Operation Wolf, Rambo/Commando and now Hellfire, which aims to leech off Afterburner and Thunderblade alike.

In Hellfire Attack you fly a helicopter towards the horizon and shoot everything that comes at you, which will hardly be a surprise to anyone. The chopper has continuously firing cannons for nearby enemies, plus 40 Hellfire missiles as a bonus. The missiles first have to be locked onto a target by moving the sight over it. That's all there is to it.

The C-64 version is ruined rather effectively by a few things. First of all, the enemy aircraft often seem to rise straight out of the forest, and they get lost effectively in the terrain. Even more of a nuisance is the near-total camouflage of the enemy missiles against the background graphics.

Nor does the ST-Amiga version do any better. The chopper moves so slowly you feel like getting out and pushing, and the graphics aren't impressive enough to save the game. A game like this demands fury, not careful tiptoeing about.

Yours truly is dropping Hellfire Attack precisely where its name suggests. And so, no doubt, will plenty of others.
