E.S.S
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

E.S.S. eli European Space Simulator on kuvaavinaan Euroopan sukkulaohjelmaa joskus ensi vuosituhannen alkupäässä.
1991 KevätGames that realistically simulate a large-scale space programme haven't been seen all that much yet, so Tomahawk's new release pushes its way into a nicely spacious little gap in the market. Still, I would rather have wished for a NASA simulation made by MicroProse than the muddled game-monster of some insignificant two-bit outfit.
E.S.S., or European Space Simulator, purports to depict Europe's shuttle programme sometime early in the next millennium. The aim is mainly to rake in money by ferrying satellites into orbit, taking part in scientific projects and carrying out assorted maintenance jobs. The fascinating basic idea has been more or less completely ruined by emphasising precisely the wrong things and by making the game extremely muddled and tediously drawn-out.
At first glance the game positively bursts with content: screens each more amazing than the last, brimming with gauges and icons. Closer inspection, however, reveals that most of it is pointless bric-a-brac. The absolute crowning glory is moving the shuttle from one orbit to another by pressing the mouse button until two bars on the instrument panel are the same length. An error of a split second is enough to fail. Surely no idiot seriously imagines that manoeuvres like that are handled by hand? The share of dull transfers and steering is disproportionately large anyway, and the implementation can best be described as stupid.
Evidently the designers didn't genuinely believe in the subject, since they have tried to cram 'exciting action' into a game that it doesn't suit one bit. The game ought to be either a 3D simulation with the emphasis on realism or a versatile strategy game, even better if it were both at the same time, but a half-baked compromise is the worst possible waste of material.
