Superleague Soccer

Joukkueita on parisenkymmentä erilaista, kaikki 'oikeita' moninekymmenine pelaajineen.

On tästä aiheesta tehty hyviäkin pelejä (esimerkiksi Football Managerit) joten miksi vaivautua?

1990 SyksySuperleague once again simulates the less action-packed side of football, namely the manager's job. The manager's duties include buying and selling players, handling the finances, arranging matches and looking after your own team. In the match itself, too, the manager can take the reins and so influence the result. Superleague has all this, and then some.

There are twenty-odd different teams, all 'real' ones with their dozens upon dozens of players. And if the ready-made players/teams aren't to your liking, you can rework them as well, right down to names and ages. Each player also has certain basic attributes, i.e. speed, accuracy and so on, which are supposed to affect the outcome. Players can be bought and sold as you please, at a pre-set price. Players' contracts can be renewed so that there are no nasty surprises with players going off to join other teams. You can play in the league, in the Euro Cup, or even take up charity matches.

So far so good, but what about the playability? Even the toughest of men will get a tear in his eye trying to play football by controlling one man at a time while the rest of the team stands still. But as if that weren't enough, the man totters about as he goes and the ball seems to fly wherever it likes. Luckily the match itself can be handed over to the computer, although that seems to make it completely random. It's very interesting to lose 4-0 to a team that's been edited so that its average age is somewhere around 90.

The controls, which simulate a mouse pointer, are stiff and slow, and the display system, which simulates a sheet of paper, only makes it hard to read. Good games have been made on this subject too (the Football Managers, for example), so why bother?
