Maze Mania

1990 SyksyMaze Mania on eräänlaista henkistä lobotomiaa.

Mahdollisuus jatkaa pariin kertaan viimeiseltä tasolta on tervetullut lisä.

Ilmeisesti Hewson on jättämässä jäähyväisiä kasibittisille ja siinä sivussa halpafirma Rack It on ripustettu narikkaan. Se olisi ainoa selitys sille, että Maze Manian tapainen tylsä Pacman-variantti on julkaistu täysihintaisena.

1990 SyksyMaze Mania is a kind of mental lobotomy. How else could you describe a game in which the Flippo sprite scours a big, monotonous maze, flips floor tiles and dodges bogeymen who don't have even Pacman's brains? A little variety has been created in the levels with randomly placed holes that you have to jump over. Another nifty gimmick is a type of tile that only flips when approached from the right direction.

The chance to continue a couple of times from the last level reached is a welcome addition. Then again, nothing particularly new seems to turn up in the levels, so you might just as well grind away at level one forever. Once you've seen one tile, you've seen them all.

As a machine-code practice exercise MM might still just about pass muster: Flippo goes wherever the controller tells it, the maze scrolls smoothly in all directions and some of the backgrounds even use pretty parallax scrolling. A nice amount of colour has been squeezed out of the C-64, but otherwise the backgrounds are extremely monotonous. Maestro Matt Grey's music is reasonably listenable, but the game's best sound effect is the one you hear when you drop a couple of tons of bricks on the disk case.

Apparently Hewson is bidding farewell to the 8-bit machines, and in the process the budget label Rack It has been hung up in the cloakroom for good. That would be the only explanation for a dull Pacman variant like Maze Mania being released at full price.
