Bloodwych

Grafiikka on hyvää, vaan äänet eivät pysty luomaan kunnon tunnelmaa.

1990 SyksyIt's a pity that adventure/role-playing games like Dungeon Master have, because of their size, remained a treat only for owners of bigger machines. Now, though, C-64 owners also get the chance to have their share, as Bloodwych is converted to eight bits.

Zendick is a very evil being and wants to destroy the entire universe. The Bloodwych, a brotherhood of wizards who ruled before Zendick cast them down onto the astral plane, aren't too keen on this madness, and intend to put an end to it by linking their minds with four heroes, who then break into Zendick's stronghold.

The game works very much like Dungeon Master, and it's controlled with a pointer and various icons, the view being a three-dimensional picture through the character's eyes. Something has been left out in the conversion from the Amiga version, though, among other things the Halls of Heroes, and the adventure begins straight in Zendick's stronghold.

The graphics are good, but the sounds can't create a proper atmosphere. The game is split into modules two or three levels in size, and it only loads when you switch modules. The upshot is that there's no coming back once you leave a group of levels behind.

Also original is the two-player mode, in which each player gets their own little band and the screen splits in two so that each player gets their own play area. On the minus side you could count the very weak sound effects and the game's narrowness compared to, say, DM (the enemies all walk on two legs and all the places look very much alike). But be that as it may, the eight-bit machines will never get any closer than this to the magic of Dungeon Master.
