Bad Blood
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1990 SyksyJälleen kerran siirrymme ydinsodan runtelemaan maailmaan. Pelaajia lohdutellaan valoisiin tulevaisuudennäkymiin asettamalla hänet mutantin kenkiin ja, valitettavasti, housuihin.
Ydinsodan seurauksena maailmaan syntyi paljon mutantteja.
Pelin ohjelmoija on Chris Roberts, jonka ansiolistaan kuuluu Originin peli Times Of Lore. TOL paistaa läpi Bad Bloodissakin. Ruudulla näkyy osittain hautautunut televisio, josta peliä seurataan. Television vieressä on pullo, jonka sisältö kuvastaa pelaajan energiaa. Televisiossa on muutama nappula, jolla hoidellaan kaikki pelissä tarvittavat asiat. Peli on kuvattu TOL:n tavoin ylhäältä päin.
Ainoa suuri miinus pelissä on alun yletön vaikeus.
1990 SyksyOnce again we move into a world mangled by nuclear war. To console players about the bright prospects for the future, they are put into a mutant's shoes and, unfortunately, trousers.
As a result of the nuclear war a lot of mutants were born into the world. The normal people quickly cut the mutants off from their midst, and the poor mutants were driven far away from civilisation. In their own reservations the mutants live a peaceful existence without disturbing the 'norms', who in turn leave them in peace. Things went on like this for some time. Then alarming messages began to come from beyond the mountains. For some reason the norms are setting off on a crusade against the mutants. The mutants' chief reasons that the mutants haven't got what it takes to win an armed struggle, so the only option left is to use the little grey cells. The chief sends a single spy to find out why the humans have suddenly turned against the mutants. That mutant is of course you, congratulations.
The game's programmer is Chris Roberts, whose track record includes Origin's game Times Of Lore. TOL shines through in Bad Blood as well. On screen there's a partly buried television through which you watch the game. Next to the television is a bottle whose contents reflect the player's energy. The television has a few knobs that handle everything you need to do in the game. Like TOL, the game is viewed from above. Owners of a VGA card are in a happy position, as the trend is moving towards 256-colour VGA graphics. Bad Blood too follows the new standard, and the end result is a real treat for the eyes.
Nobody even tries to do anything revolutionary with the PC's beeper, but it's another story if the machine has one of the more popular sound cards. Apparently quite a few working hours have been put into the music, and it creates a splendid atmosphere. The keyboard control works accurately and without a murmur. The only big minus in the game is the inordinate difficulty at the start. There isn't so much as a token clue, and the character is weak and nearly unarmed. The playing area is so vast that you get lost in the desert far too easily. If thirst and hunger don't kill the character off quickly, the assorted monsters transformed by radioactive dust will see to that.
BB only shows its best sides after many hours of play, but by then the most impatient players will already have switched the machine off. That's a pity, because BB is a good game despite its initial difficulties. By way of guidance, I can say that if you liked Times Of Lore, you'll like this one too.
