1990 KevätMaailma on vaarassa, kun ilkeä velhotar vangitsi keijut, joiden toimenkuvaan kuuluu rauhan ja harmonian säilyttäminen. Niinpä apuun on kutsuttava mahtava partainen setä nimeltä Stormlord, jonka kipunoivissa kämmenissä riittää tulivoimaa.
1990 KevätThe world is in danger, because a wicked sorceress has captured the fairies, whose job description includes preserving peace and harmony. So help must be summoned in the shape of a mighty bearded old fellow called Stormlord, whose crackling palms pack plenty of firepower.
Stormlord is an ordinary horizontally scrolling jump-and-shoot type of game, sprinkled with age-old "use the object in the right spot" type puzzles. You don't need to think twice about the solutions - keys open doors, for example, and in acid rain you have to shelter under an umbrella - but the tight time limit turns out to be a nastier problem.
Dotted around the landscape are teleporters of a sort; step onto one and you can summon a bird that hauls the old storm geezer about (the instructions claim it's an eagle, but judging by the sound it's a hybrid crow dyed brown).
The game's ideas have stalled at the level of a middling collection of clichés, but as a counterweight there's an impressive presentation. The juicily dark-toned and imaginative graphics look as if they came straight from the pages of a high-class storybook, except that the naked fairies don't quite fit the picture. The hero is an impressive-looking hulk, but the animation could use a bit more pep, as the old boy moves as if he'd swallowed a ramrod. The music and sound effects are quality work, which is just what you'd expect from the Dutch Maniacs of Noise team.
Stormlord is outwardly striking and technically satisfactory, but something is amiss when the playing started to feel like a humourless slog as early as the second level. Maybe the game's designer has the same flaw as the hero's animation: could do with taking it a bit easier.
