Skate of the Art
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1990 KevätRullalautavillitys on poikinut viime vuosina tukun pelejä, joiden joukossa on muutama mielenkiintoinenkin yritelmä. Skate of the Art on puolestaan kotoisin Sveitsistä ja ote on ärsyttävän kesy.
Grafiikka on yhdentekevää, musiikki ärsyttävää ja kaiken huipuksi pelissä on todella rivo bugi: tulos menee aina high score -taulukon ensimmäiseksi pyyhkien samalla edellisen pois. Ei tämä todellakaan ole laadultaan mikään state of the art, vaikka pelin mauton nimi sellaista yrittääkin vihjailla. Ehkä joku skeittauksen ystävä jaksaa tästäkin innostua.
1990 KevätThe skateboarding craze has spawned a whole bunch of games in recent years, among them even a few interesting efforts. Take, for instance, 720 and Skate or Die from across the Atlantic, of which the latter in particular was ace and generally cool. Skate of the Art, on the other hand, hails from Switzerland, and its approach is irritatingly tame.
Product development is in the hands of the 1001 team, which is presumably the heir of the hacker crew known by the same name. The game's basic idea couldn't be simpler: the scenery scrolls and the skater skates, jumping over bumps, manhole covers and bricks. A couple of screenfuls later comes a slightly harder route, where you jump over bumps, manhole covers and bricks.
This could even be fun, except that the routes are designed so tightly that the fun is over in a few seconds and you don't even get time to kick the board up to a decent speed. Twenty-odd short tracks isn't a lot, but the game still has plenty of challenge. Namely, the third track already gives you cataracts, because you have to press your nose right up against the glass to make out at which pixel you're supposed to jab the joystick.
This is one of those sad cases where hardly anything is right. The graphics are neither here nor there, the music is irritating and, to top it all, the game has a truly filthy bug: your score always goes to the top of the high score table, wiping out the previous one in the process. In quality this really is no state of the art, even though the game's tasteless name tries to hint as much. Maybe some skateboarding fan can summon up the energy to get excited even about this.
