1990 KevätDouble Dragonin noin vuosi sitten ilmestyessä se tyrmättiin yksimielisesti eikä syyttä. Heikko koodaus ja samantasoinen pelattavuus yhdistettynä tyhjiinpuserrettuun ideaan ei tosiaan hetkauttanut.
Vaan vuosi vaihtuu ja kakkonen ilmestyy DD:n perään. Juoni ei kohennu: hakkaa nippu kevyempiä miehiä/naisia, kerää mahdollisesti lisäaseita ja kentän lopuksi niittaa isokyrmy. Mutta pelipä kohentuu.
Double Dragon II on yllättävän pelattava sankarin totellessa kivasti tikun ohjeita. Tärkeintä kuitenkin on massiivisen kokoiset spritet, jotka antavat pelille sen kaipaavan erottavan ilmeen. Samplatut efektit lisäävät kuorrutuksen maistuvaan, joskin asenteiltaan epäilyttävään väkivaltakakkuun.
Beat'em-uppeihin ihastuneille Tuplalohhari tupla on kannattava ostos kovasti tasoaan kohentaneelta Virgin Mastertronicilta.
1990 KevätWhen Double Dragon came out about a year ago it was unanimously panned, and not without reason. Weak coding and playability to match, combined with an idea squeezed completely dry, really didn't move anyone.
But the year turns and the sequel follows hot on DD's heels. The plot doesn't improve: beat up a bunch of lightweight men/women, maybe pick up some extra weapons, and at the end of the level flatten the big bruiser. But the game, now - that does improve.
Double Dragon II is surprisingly playable, with the hero nicely obeying the stick's commands. Most important of all, though, are the massive sprites, which give the game the distinctive look it needed. The sampled effects add the icing to a tasty, if attitudinally dubious, cake of violence.
For those smitten with beat'em-ups, Double Draggie Double is a worthwhile purchase from Virgin Mastertronic, who have raised their standards a great deal.
