Batman
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Batesteettisesti peli on hyvin tehty. C-64-Batmanilla on jopa aito Adam West-batpömppömahakin. ST-Amiga-Batissa grafiikka näyttää lähinnä sarjakuvalta ja Amigassa on jopa samplattu Batteema. Batanimaatio pelaa ja batmenu on miellyttävä käyttää. Grafiikkaporkkanana on sarjakuvamaista fiilistä antava ikkunointi, eli uusi batruutu ponnahtaa suoraan vanhan päälle.
1989 KevätIt's a wondrously lovely afternoon in Gotham City. Suddenly Ocean releases a game called Batman, even though a couple of years ago Ocean released a game called Batman. Holy I'd be a little baffled, if I didn't know that the new game is based on the upcoming Batfilm.
Besides the Penguin planning to conquer nothing less than the entire world with his robot penguins, the Joker has kidnapped Robin, so Batman's remit is unusually clear-cut.
Batman commands a satisfactory number of fighting moves and can even fling the Batarang, as long as he finds it first. The Bat-Man can find plenty of other items too. The map of Gotham City is big and sprawling, so there's plenty to do.
Bataesthetically the game is well made. The C-64 Batman even has a genuine Adam West batpotbelly. In the ST-Amiga Bat the graphics look pretty much like a comic, and the Amiga even has a sampled Battheme. The Batanimation works and the batmenu is pleasant to use. The graphical carrot is the windowing, which gives a comic-book feel: a new batscreen pops up right on top of the old one. That's why it's such a pity that the game follows the usual British arcade adventure line, i.e. every screen has a villain or two plus, as a bonus, little robots that shoot. Reinforcements turn up on the spot as soon as you've got rid of the previous lot. Am I paranoid, or is it really true that nobody can be bothered to come up with anything new any more?
As a batman myself, I was annoyed by the lack of Sock!Pow! mentality in the fights and by the Batmobile, conspicuous by its absence. In its own genre Batman is nevertheless a good action adventure, but when you've been playing the same formula with different sprites since you were a kid, you can't just sigh "Holy amnesia!" and punch your fist into your palm. Not exactly a (bat)must-buy.
