Who framed Roger Rabbit

Ensimmäisessä osassa Rogerin on ajettava läpi kaupungin. Ajolaitteena toimii piirretty taksi Benny the Cab, joka osaa muun muassa hyppiä talojen katoille pois ruuhkaliikenteen jaloista.

Toisen osapelin tapahtumapaikka on Pen and Ink Club, jossa Roger juoksee ympäriinsä keräten pöydiltä paperisia lautasliinoja.

Pelillisesti Who Framed Roger Rabbit ei nouse keskinkertaista paremmaksi, sillä pääpaino on asetettu visuaaliselle osaamiselle. Se on vahinko sinänsä, sillä Rogerista olisi voinut tulla huippupeli pienellä lisäviritelyllä.

1989 SyksyRoger Rabbit blew fresh winds into Hollywood's stuffy atmosphere, combining 40s Film Noir, live actors and animation in a way never seen before.

The micro version of Roger Rabbit was put together by Disney's Buena Vista. So the game's graphics are of a class that leaves hardly anything to wish for. On top of the animation, the game has plenty of still pictures to admire while you wait for the various parts of the game to load.

Three sequences from the film have been picked for the game, and they faithfully copy the look of their originals. At the start of each part, the cigar-puffing Baby Herman, still in nappies, pops in to give the player a tip about what to do next.

In the first part Roger has to drive through the city. His ride is the cartoon taxi Benny the Cab, which can, among other things, jump up onto the rooftops, out of the way of the rush-hour traffic.

The second sub-game takes place at the Pen and Ink Club, where Roger runs around collecting paper napkins from the tables. The pace is tremendous, and our rabbit has to avoid grabbing the booze that pops up on the tables and getting within reach of the gorilla working as the bouncer. If Roger manages to collect all the napkins, he gets to continue his journey to the edge of town, where Acme's Gag Factory is located.

The game has truly dizzying graphics and animation. Some scenes have been done every bit as splendidly as in the film itself. The music is pleasant at times too, but the sound effects could use a bit more beef. The sub-games are fairly simple, but they get harder as the game goes on. Worst of all are the long, drawn-out waits while the various stages of the game load.

Gameplay-wise Who Framed Roger Rabbit doesn't rise above mediocre, since the main emphasis has been put on visual craft. That is a shame, really, since with a little more tuning Roger could have become a top game.
