Shogun

1989 SyksyInfocom on harhautunut pitkälle vanhan tyylin tekstiseikkailuistaan.

Mielenkiintoinen uusi pykälä kuitenkin on vihjeiden sisällyttäminen itse peliin. Enää ei tarvitse tilata Infocomilta vihjekirjoja. Grafiikan käyttäminen on edistysaskel ja muutenkin Infocomin pelien ulkoasu on muuttunut suuresti edukseen viime aikoina (Arthur).

Muuta ei tarvinne kertoa: Shogun on tuttua tanakkaa Infocom-laatua.

1989 SyksyInfocom has strayed a long way from its old-style text adventures. They no longer run on text alone, and don't necessarily even run on text (like Journey, which is played with the mouse). Shogun is fresh proof that Infocom has decided to move on and develop. For it includes graphics (murmuring from the crowd and cries of astonishment).

From the name most people will guess what to expect. Power struggles, samurai and tea. Except... not quite yet. Infocom's Shogun starts at the very beginning: first you have to try to make it to Japan alive at all, what with the ship being in the grip of a bit of a storm. From there on, too, the game slavishly follows the events of James Clavell's book.

Shogun is at least up to the standard you would expect from Infocom. No problem can be solved with a single command; instead, all in all, everything requires communicating with others and thinking about things on several levels. An interesting new touch, however, is the inclusion of hints in the game itself. You no longer need to order hint books from Infocom. The use of graphics is a step forward, and in other ways too the look of Infocom's games has changed greatly for the better lately (Arthur).

Nothing more needs saying: Shogun is the familiar, sturdy Infocom quality.
