1989 SyksyRick Dangerous on ilmeisestikin Indiana Jonesin kaksoisveli. Samanlainen lierihattu, samanlaiset nahkakuteet, sama komea Harrison Ford -naamataulu. Pelipaketista löytyy nelivärinen taidokkaasti piirretty sarjakuva, jossa kerrotaan ennen peliä tapahtuneet tapahtumat.
Rick on saanut käsiinsä kirotun Goolun temppelin kartan ja päättää lähteä metsästämään sieltä aarretta. Kirottu temppeli on vaarallinen paikka. Yksikään ihminen ei ole selvinnyt sieltä hengissä. Pelaajan tehtävä on ohjata Rick läpi laajan temppelin, varoen alkuasukkaita ja ansoja ja keräten aarteita.
Rick Dangerous on platform-tyyppinen peli. Temppelissä on pahoja sortumia, joiden selvittämiseen Rick tarvitsee dynamiittia. Onneksi seikkailun jumala on suonut sitäkin matkan varrelle puisiin laatikoihin.
Temppelissä on monia erilaisia ansoja. Heti pelin alussa Rick joutuu juoksemaan karkuun Indiana Jonesista tuttua vierivää kiveä. Seinissä olevista patsaista lentää silloin tällöin teräviä puisia keppejä, joita Rickin on osattava väistää. Lattiassa törröttää siellä täällä teräviä piikkejä. Oviaukoissa saattaa olla myös ansa. Siksi aukkoon on hyvä tökätä kepillä ennen kulkemista.
Kaikista hyvistä puolistaan huolimatta Rick on edelleen platform-peli: pelaaminen perustuu paljolti muistiin, sillä Rickin täytyy aina tietää edeltäkäsin mitä on tulossa seuraavan kulman takana. Kuoleman sattuessa Rick palaa takaisin edelliseen tarkastuspisteeseen, joita on pelissä noin kymmenen ruudun välein. Tämä on pitemmän päälle turhauttavaa ja uuvuttavaa. Rickiä voisikin suositella lähinnä seikkailuhenkisille pomppimispelien ystäville.
1989 SyksyRick Dangerous is evidently Indiana Jones's twin brother. The same brimmed hat, the same leather duds, the same handsome Harrison Ford mug. The game package contains a skilfully drawn four-colour comic that tells of the events leading up to the game.
Rick has got his hands on a map of the cursed Goolu temple and decides to go treasure hunting there. The cursed temple is a dangerous place. Not a single person has made it out alive. The player's task is to guide Rick through the sprawling temple, watching out for natives and traps and collecting treasures.
Rick Dangerous is a platform-type game. Rick can jump from one platform to another and climb up ladders and rough walls. He can also crouch and jump. For armament Rick has a six-shooter, and ammo for it can be found along the levels. With a sturdy stick Rick can poke push-buttons, assorted critters and natives. The temple has nasty cave-ins, and to clear them Rick needs dynamite. Fortunately the god of adventure has provided that too, in wooden crates along the way.
The temple has many different traps. Right at the start of the game Rick has to run away from the rolling boulder familiar from Indiana Jones. Every now and then sharp wooden stakes fly out of statues in the walls, and Rick has to know how to dodge them. Here and there sharp spikes stick up out of the floor. Doorways may also be booby-trapped. That's why it's a good idea to give the opening a prod with the stick before going through. To top it all off, the temple is home to temple guards and assorted bugs. The bugs can be put to sleep by poking them with the stick, but the natives need some lead from Rick's revolver before they settle down.
Rick's graphics are just what they ought to look like, i.e. an old Aztec temple. The playability is very good and the sound effects are brilliantly humorous. Four really long, different levels guarantee gaming pleasure well into next week.
For all its good points, Rick is still a platform game: playing relies heavily on memory, since Rick always has to know in advance what is coming round the next corner. When death strikes, Rick goes back to the previous checkpoint, and there is one roughly every ten screens. In the long run this is frustrating and exhausting. So Rick is best recommended mainly to adventure-minded fans of jump-about games.
