Gary Lineker's Hot-Shot!

Kuningas Jalkapallon pelaamista katsellaan kuten MicroSoccerissa suoraan ylhäältäpäin.

1989 SyksyLet's state right off the bat that although GLHS tries to beat MicroSoccer on its own turf, MicroSoccer, born of a collaboration between Sensible Software and MicroProse, is still the valiant bearer of the crown for the best football game on the 64.

You shouldn't, however, settle for the idea that GLHS is some utterly wretched lash-up. The graphics pass muster, even if they are smudgier than in MicroSoccer and messier too, Ben Daglish's music is a nice breezy ditty, though no chart-topper, and the playability is just what you'd expect: easy and simple.

As in MicroSoccer, the playing of King Football is viewed from directly overhead. In other respects too, it shines clearly through which game is being imitated here. MicroSoccer's level is not reached, though.

The instruction booklet explains everything necessary in easily digestible terms, namely how the kick-power meter works, sliding tackles and the other standard moves. The programmers evidently thought it a jolly good joke to name the teams after English computer magazines, but they can be renamed.

All in all, GLHS is a perfectly nice and playable football game, and there's no call either to crow about it much or to run it into the ground. One thing, at least, has been done better here than in MicroSoccer: the ball seems to spin more realistically!
