Fighting Soccer
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1990 KevätFighting Soccer on kotikonekäännös ulkomailla jonkinmoista suosiota saaneesta kolikkopelistä. Ideana on yksinkertaisesti jalkapallon peluu.
1990 KevätFighting Soccer is a home computer conversion of a coin-op that has enjoyed some sort of popularity abroad. The idea is simply playing football. The game is presented in the same style as, e.g., MicroProse Soccer, that is, straight from above. The similarities by no means end there.
The player has the option of snatching the ball off an opponent with a sliding tackle, or simply by getting neatly between the other player and the ball. The longer you hold the fire button down, the harder and higher the wallop goes. Crammed onto the narrow pitch are 10 extremely big players who, going by their size and looks, would be better suited to the Mr. Universum bodybuilding contest.
On the Amiga the graphics are quite tolerable; the players are big (too big, if anything) and moderately well animated. The C-64 FS performs a skilful and deceptive Sinclair Spectrum emulation. The sprites do look quite good, but the graphics look as if they've been wired straight over from the Spectrum, which in my opinion is certainly no plus, quite the opposite.
The sound side is extremely average in both versions; there's nothing revolutionary to be found in either. The Amiga whizzes out a few nice samples and some irritating title music, whereas the C-64's music sounds the same as a thousand other C-64 title tunes. In playability the Amiga FS is a toe or two ahead, but both still end up on the unplayable side. Since controlling the players jerking about the pitch is what it is, you can't expect a very interesting game. And so you'll happily lower FS into its grave after a few games.
It must also be mentioned that the Amiga FS is, incidentally, at least as good as, if not better than, the Amiga MicroProse Soccer, though it doesn't beat Kick Off, mind you.
