Circus Games

1989 SyksySirkus on tullut Pleiers Heiveniin. Katsojille on luvassa omintakeista nuoralla notkumista, takapainoista taitoratsastusta, surmansyöksyjä trapetsilta ja ihmissyöjätiikereiden aterioinnin seurantaa. Pelaajille sirkus mikrossa tarjoaa amatöörin kohtalon ammattilaisten hommissa.

Sirkustemppujen suorittaminen ilman asiaan kuuluvaa valmennusta tuo peliin koomisia piirteitä.

Circus Gamesin parhaiten toteutettu laji on trapetsihypyt.

Perhepeliksi Circus Games on erinomainen.

1989 SyksyThe circus has come to Pleiers Heiven. The audience can look forward to idiosyncratic sagging on the tightrope, tail-heavy trick riding, death dives from the trapeze and a close follow-up of man-eating tigers at mealtime. For the players, the circus on a micro offers the fate of an amateur doing a professional's job.

1-4 players can take part in the game, preferably humans. Being in a gang of computers feels awfully orphaned, and the game's most essential offering, having fun together, turns awfully one-sided. Schadenfreude is the best joy only if its target knows how to appreciate spite.

Although Circus Games is extremely easy to learn, sovereign mastery of it takes dogged practice. Performing circus stunts without the proper coaching lends the game its comic side. The various death dives form a semi-official act on the programme, and taking part in it sets off hysterical hilarity.

Various animals are an essential part of the circus. Besides the elephant tripping about on the title screen, the game has managed to squeeze in a horse and tigers. The former is for practising trick riding, and the latter have to be persuaded that feeding time is still a while off. The game character survives his spills from the saddle without external injuries, but you'd think banging your head on the floor would be unhealthy in the long run, so this event can't exactly be called non-violent either.

Cracking the whip, you steer the stripy cats round a small obstacle course. If your lashes hit the cats too often, the cats lash back. Next on the programme comes something very rarely seen in a real circus and eagerly awaited by the littlest members of the family: a people-eating simulation.

The best-implemented event in Circus Games is the trapeze jumps. Well-timed transfers from one trapeze to another, and plunges into the safety net after a misjudgement, have that certain something you've lately waited for in vain from the kind of game Circus Games represents. In this event you really come to appreciate the option of a replay of your last attempt.

Weighed as a technical achievement, the game lands mercilessly on the growing heap of mediocrities. As a choice of subject, though, the circus setting is such a bullseye that even Tynesoft hasn't managed to destroy its magical pull entirely. As a family game, Circus Games is excellent.
