Roy of The Rovers
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1989 KevätJalkapallofanien tai -huligaanien suosikki numero Uno on Roy Race, Melchester Rovers -joukkueen manageri. Mikään oikea jalkapalloilija ei Roy kuitenkaan ole, vaan Buster-sarjakuvalehden sankari.
Jalkapallojoukkueen bingo ei oikein tahdo lyödä rahoiksi ja siksi Roversien kotikenttää uhkaa joutuminen ostoskeskukseksi. Roy on kuitenkin järjestänyt rahankeräysottelun pystyäkseen maksamaan joukkueen velat, mutta viime hetkellä kaikki on mennä päin maalitolppaa. Joku on kidnapannut neljä joukkueen pelaajaa ja Roylla on vain pari tuntia aikaa pelastaa heidät kidnappaajien kynsistä. Ongelmana ovat kaupunkiin saapuneet punkkarit ja jalkapallohuligaanit, jotka yrittävät estää Royta.
Peli jakaantuu kahteen osaan. Ensin vaelletaan ympäri kaupungin katuja etsien pelaajia puhumalla vastaantulijoiden kanssa ja väläyttelemällä Pepsodent-hymyä. Määräajan kuluttua umpeen peli siirtyy jalkapallokentälle, missä pelataan ratkaiseva ottelu.
Tämä osuus on tavallista jalkapalloa, sillä erotuksella että Royn joukkueessa on vain niin monta pelaajaa kuin hän on ehtinyt löytää.
Pelattavuudeltaan Roy of the Rovers ei ole kovin kummoinen. Alkuosan seikkailupeli on melko tavanomainen ja itse jalkapallo on karmein versio mitä C-64:lla olen pelannut. Pelin musiikki aiheuttaa suurempina annoksina kroonisen aivosurkastuman ja grafiikkakin on sitä ei-mitään-erikoista-mutta-toimivaa tyyliä. Tavallaan tällä kasetilla saa kaksi peliä yhden hinnalla, mutta kun ne eivät edes yhdessä vastaa yhtä täyttä hintaa. Älkää antako nimen pettää...
1989 KevätThe number Uno favourite of football fans, or football hooligans, is Roy Race, manager of the Melchester Rovers team. Roy is no real footballer, though, but the hero of the Buster comic.
The football club's bingo isn't really managing to bring in the money, and so the Rovers' home ground is under threat of becoming a shopping centre. Roy has, however, organised a fundraising match so as to pay off the team's debts, but at the last moment everything is about to hit the post. Someone has kidnapped four of the team's players and Roy has only a couple of hours to rescue them from the kidnappers' clutches. The problem is the punks and football hooligans who have arrived in town and are trying to stop Roy.
The game is split into two parts. First you wander around the town's streets looking for the players by talking to passers-by and flashing a Pepsodent smile. When the time limit runs out, the game moves to the football pitch, where the decisive match is played.
This part is ordinary football, with the difference that Roy's team only has as many players as he has managed to find.
In terms of playability Roy of the Rovers is nothing much to speak of. The adventure game in the first part is fairly run-of-the-mill, and the football itself is the most awful version I have played on the C-64. In larger doses the game's music causes chronic brain atrophy, and the graphics are of that nothing-special-but-it-works style too. In a way this cassette gets you two games for the price of one, but then even together they aren't worth one full price. Don't let the name fool you...
