Overlander
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Overlanderin pahin vika on formaatin monotoonisuus.
1989 KevätAccording to one of Erich von Däniken's theories, an extraterrestrial intelligence is steering the development of mankind by programming new ideas into human genes in advance. That is why great inventions are often made at the same time in different parts of the globe. Apparently new game ideas come as part of the package too, judging by how briskly "drive and shoot" games have been multiplying.
Mind you, it has even been established in court already that Overlander existed as a concept before Road Blasters was even a coin-op. That may well be the case, as the game stands out favourably from the usual RB clones.
Overlander is set in a Mad Max-style future where only the toughest drivers dare to haul goods along roads controlled by thugs. A legal load pays less than an illegal one, but then the risk is smaller too. Your driving pay can be spent on fuel and extra weapons. Otherwise Overlander does closely resemble Roadblasters, the difference being far more effective graphics. The road is no straight stretch but hilly, rolling terrain, and the game even gives you the feeling that the car is actually moving.
Overlander's worst flaw is the monotony of the format. If the idea of combining Outrun with shooting appeals, Overlander thrashes its competitors like Schwarzenegger thrashing dwarves, but those more interested in complex action will probably take the overtaking lane.
