Menace
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Menace on tuiki tavallinen räiskimispeli, jolle voitaisiin omaperäisyydestä antaa pyöreä nolla.
Psygnosiksen tapaan toteutus on ensiluokkaista.
1989 KevätPsyclapse, which is in fact our old friend Psygnosis, has after a few months' pregnancy popped a healthy destruction game out onto the market, one that could nevertheless be called an unwanted child. Although on the surface there's not much to fault in the game, its theme quickly kicks your initial enthusiasm to the kerb.
Menace is a perfectly ordinary shooting game that would score a round zero for originality. But since it's a shoot'em-up, it has to be judged as one. So: the player's task is to fly through Draconia's six defence systems, causing as much havoc and destruction as possible along the way, so that the actual assault force following behind won't meet any more resistance. As the prevailing formula dictates, you can pick up extra weaponry and other goodies along the way.
As is Psygnosis's way, the execution is first-class. The music roars along decently enough and the playability's spot on too. About the graphics, it's worth mentioning that the manual claims the game has 64 colours on screen at once. I certainly wouldn't have noticed if the manual hadn't said so.
So Menace is quite a nice game. It's just dragged down by its run-of-the-mill theme and monotonous pace. Unfortunately, games like this will keep being made as long as people keep buying them.
