Mach 3
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1989 KevätGallialaisilla on tapana tehdä asiat hiukka hervottomasti rankalaisittain. Mach-3 on heidän näkemyksensä lentosimulaattorille olennaisista asioista.
1989 KevätThe Gauls have a habit of doing things in a slightly unhinged, French sort of way. Mach-3 is their take on what really matters in a flight simulator. First things first, naturally: an amazon posing coquettishly Cicciolina-style on the loading screen spurs the pilot hero on to give it everything in the game's ordeal. And when the little maiden has also been blessed with the sexiest voice ever coaxed out of the Amiga's speech synth, a Gaul would hardly complain even if the game itself were a Space Nirvaders clone.
For those less interested in the aesthetic side of things, let it be said by way of consolation that Mach-3 is a pretty tightly paced shoot-'em-up. The player sits at the controls of a devilishly nippy attack plane and cheekily blasts everything that comes whizzing at them. Refreshingly, and unusually, the viewpoint is from behind the plane, so that the whole aircraft is visible on screen.
Apart from a trigger finger that never slips, handling the craft takes nothing more than waggling the joystick towards the four points of the compass. The only difficulty is that the plane's nose dips when you pull the stick towards you. When things get tight, spinal muscles conditioned by hundreds of flying hours stubbornly insist on following the time-honoured logic, which is the exact reverse.
Among the things to shoot you'll find high-tech hardware both growling on the ground and operating in the air. As a bonus you get to blast disembodied heads floating in the dark. The graphics are better than average and the sounds of battle numbingly familiar. But the best is saved for last! When you have yanked the stick back one last time to climb and ended up in a sloppy kiss with the ground (it's just so wrong), Game Over is whispered tantalisingly into your ear and all is forgiven once again.
