Gunshoot
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1989 KevätPitkään hiljaiseloa viettänyt Martech muistaa meitä uudella pelillä. Kannen perusteella uutukainen näkyy sijoittuvan todellisuudessa enemmän tai vähemmän villiin länteen. Sisäkannen ohjeet eivät tunnu suhtautuvan peliin kovinkaan tosissaan, niistä löytyy esim. maininta "sinulla on kolme elämää, realistista eikö totta?" ja muuta etäisesti huvittavaa.
Pelin ladanneelle henkilölle annetaan tehtäväksi puhdistaa kaupunki likaisista roistoista, mutta todistaakseen taitonsa hänen täytyy ensin tiputella säilyketölkkejä kaktusten nenistä aikarajoituksen suomissa puitteissa. Mikä sitten saa tehtävän antaneet henkilöt uskomaan, että heppu joka lähes konepistoolia vastaavalla tulivoimalla saa muutamaan tölkkiin reiän, pystyy nitistämään karskeja ryöväreitä? Mutta mitä väliä sillä sitten on.
Ensiksikin, grafiikka menettelee.
1989 KevätMartech, which has been lying low for a long time, remembers us with a new game. Judging by the cover, the newcomer appears to be set, in reality, in a more or less Wild West. The instructions on the inside cover don't seem to take the game all that seriously; among other things they contain the remark "you have three lives, realistic isn't it?" and other remotely amusing stuff.
The person who has loaded the game is given the task of cleaning the town of dirty villains, but to prove their skill they must first knock tin cans off the noses of cacti, within the confines of a time limit. So what makes the people handing out the job believe that a guy who, with firepower close to that of a submachine gun, manages to put a hole in a few cans, is capable of snuffing out hard-bitten robbers? But then again, what does it matter.
First off, the graphics are passable. The heap of pixels bobbing about in the foreground is the so-called good guy of the story, i.e. the one that I, Petri Teittinen, steer around. To Martech's credit it has to be said that the fellow is well animated and reacts in amusing ways if you leave him to ponder things on his own for a longer spell.
Closer to the middle of the screen whirls a circular sight, which the player uses to aim the weapon. The sight is rather hard to use, since its inability to stay put, added to the delay between pressing the button and the guns going off, makes hitting the target more a matter of luck than of skill. Knocking over the cans still goes all right, with the six-shooters firing 10 shots in five seconds, but when the dude comes up against the story's so-called bad guys, the fate of the "hero" is to emulate an easy target.
Because of all this or regardless of it, whichever you like, Gunshoot is harmless, if difficult, fun for the slightly younger members of the family.
