Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1989 KevätEi ole ketunkaan elämä kanoilla tanssimista. Kun rouva Kettu haluaa ruokaa, sitä haetaan vaikka metsässä vaanii aseistettuja mäyriä ja pähkinäkranaatteja paiskovia KOPin sponsoroimia oravaisia, muiden hulvattomien, mutta karvaisten tappajien lisäksi.
Mr. Fox omistaa pikku pistoolin, jolla jahtaajia voi harventaa. Raskaampaa aseistusta on metsä täynnä. Kun ketun kunto alkaa pettää, voi Fox vetäytyä maan alle ketunkoloihin ja heittää huuleensa vaikka maukkaan jänisjoukkueen. Tällä saadaan ketun kunnon kertova lerppuva kieli lerppumaan vähemmän. Tarkoitus pelissä on kerätä kolme ruokaesinettä ja viedä ne kotikoloon rouva Foxille. Näin tämä peli vahvistaa sukupuolirooleja: vaimo tekee kotona ruokaa, jota mies pyssy kädessä hankkii.
Fox kompastuu pariin seikkaan: ensinnäkin se on grafiikkaa lukuunottamatta aivan tuikitavallinen räiskimispeli ja toiseksi se ei edes ole kovin pelattava. Kettu on näet villi olento, jonka vapaa sielu ei aina halua ottaa onkeensa joystickin antamia vihjeitä. Grafiikka ja animaatio sinänsä ovat varsin hyviä, äänien jäävät tavanomaiselle tasolle.
Fox Fetches Food on shoot'em-up ketun vaatteissa, ja uusi keskinkertainen lisäys ampumapelien valtavaan kasaan. Denton Design ei ole pystynyt kehittämään hyvästä ideasta hyvää peliä.
1989 KevätLife isn't all a bed of chickens, even for a fox. When Mrs. Fox wants food, food gets fetched, even if armed badgers lurk in the forest along with KOP-sponsored squirrelkins lobbing nut grenades, on top of other hilarious but furry killers.
Mr. Fox owns a little pistol with which to thin out the pursuers. The forest is full of heavier weaponry. When the fox's stamina starts to give out, Fox can retreat underground into the foxholes and wolf down, say, a tasty team of hares. This makes the floppy tongue that shows the fox's condition flop about a little less. The object of the game is to collect three food items and take them back to the home den for Mrs. Fox. In this way the game reinforces gender roles: the wife cooks at home the food that the husband procures, gun in hand.
Fox trips over a couple of things: first, apart from the graphics it's a thoroughly run-of-the-mill shoot-'em-up, and second, it isn't even very playable. The fox, you see, is a wild creature whose free spirit doesn't always care to take the joystick's hints on board. The graphics and animation as such are pretty good; the sound stays at the usual level.
Fox Fetches Food is a shoot'em-up in fox's clothing, and yet another mediocre addition to the huge pile of shooting games. Denton Design has not managed to develop a good game out of a good idea.
