Exploding Fist +

Yksinkertaista. Fist+ vetää selvästi lyhyemmän korren ja kaiken lisäksi jokaisella tietokonepelin muodostavalla osa-alueella. Grafiikka on vastustajaa selvästi klomppisempaa, taustan kaupunkimaisema on suoraan sanoen surkea eikä sisällä mitään IK+:n taustaan verrattavaa.

1989 KevätEveryone surely remembers Exploding Fist, brilliant in its day, and the not-so-brilliant Exploding Fist II. Both games were published by Melbourne House, which has been through bankruptcy once and is now in other hands. Now Firebird has acquired the rights to the game's name and squeezed Fist plus out onto the market.

The familiar-sounding name is presumably a declaration of war on System 3's International Karate+, since Fist and IK have, after all, had a bit of a spat going since time immemorial. First came Exploding Fist, and straight after it System 3 puts out IK, which was better. Then System-3 made IK+, and Firebird tries to take revenge on Melbourne House's behalf with Fist+.

So how does this clash of the titans turn out, then? Simple. Fist+ clearly draws the shorter straw, and on top of it all in every single area that makes up a computer game. The graphics are clearly clunkier than the opponent's, and the city skyline in the background is frankly pitiful and contains nothing to compare with IK+'s background. The sprites depicting the blokes beating each other up have been plucked straight out of Fist I, and by today's standards they're not all that hot. The music is middling, and the chaps' yells still sound like a bad cough. There isn't much to either knock or praise in the playability. It may be mentioned that the computer-controlled third man is up to Bruce Lee's level (i.e. dead? ed. note).

This isn't quite a straight Exploding Ripoff; the game has a few new moves such as the cartwheel (as if straight from the circus) and the elbow to the stomach (handy in everyday life too). Even so: if you're looking for a nice karate game for your C-64, hunt down IK+ from somewhere, because Fist+ won't do as a substitute.
