Troll

Troll kertoo peikko Humdruffinin seikkailuista Narcin maailmassa.

1988Denton Design is trying with the fury of desperation to crank out original games. Last came Eco, which didn't live up to the high advance expectations, and now comes Troll.

Troll tells of the adventures of Humdruffin the troll in the world of Narc. This world consists of polygons, half of which are down below and half on the ceiling. By climbing on top of a little pyramid Humdruffin can switch halves and then walk upside down. A bunch of goblins try to build a fence around our troll, and succeed with depressing certainty, leaving the poor thing unable to move.

Humdum can toss holes onto the ground, and their effect is determined by the gauge on the left of the screen. In addition, a killer hole wanders around the screen, and it does guess-what to everyone who ends up in it. A goblin's touch is also fatal to Humdruffin, as it turns him to stone.

The graphics look neat, if a little too small. The cheerful music is guaranteed to start destroying your central nervous system after just a couple of minutes.

Troll is a highly original game, that can't be denied. Unfortunately it is also highly confusing, insanely difficult and deadly dull. 90 percent of the causes of death remain a complete mystery, and there seems to be nothing to do on the screens except dash about.

Oh kind troll, you are so feeble, which is why I'm reaching for the power switch.
