Train, The
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. 1988Ranska 1944. Wermacht on lastannut panssarijunan täyteen korvaamattomia taideaarteita tarkoituksenaan evakuoida ne ennen liittoutuneiden saapumista. 'Le Sacre Bleu', toteaa vastarintajohtaja Pierre Le Feu ja apulaisensa Le Ducin kanssa päättää kaapata Le junan ja ajaa sen Le Liittoutuneiden hallussa olevaan Le Kaupunkiin.
Toimintaa tässä Sydneyn (Dambusters, Ace of Aces) uutukaisessa riittää periaatteessa ihan mukavasti. The Train käsittää junalla ajelua, Messerschmittien röpöttämistä konekivääreillä, siltoja vartioivien alusten upottamista, asemien valtausta sun muuta, jossa junan tykeillä ja konekivääreillä voi tulittaa. Turhan paljon ajasta menee kuitenkin vain junalla ajeluun.
Osittain Trainissa on erinomainen grafiikka. Esimerkiksi junan liikkuminen ja hyökkäävät koneet ovat erinomaisia, mutta tykkiveneet ovat melko surkeita. Koska toiminta tapahtuu yöllä on käytössä oleva väripaletti kromaattisesti tiukasti harmaan sävyissä. Äänipuolella junan sytkytys on ihan onnistunut, muuten efektit eivät pahemmin heilauta.
The Train on 'ihan kiva' peli, mutta eipä paljon muuta. Kaiholla muistelen sellaisia Accolade-klassikkoja kuin Psi-5 Trading Co.
1988France, 1944. The Wermacht has loaded an armoured train full of irreplaceable art treasures, intending to evacuate them before the Allies arrive. 'Le Sacre Bleu', declares resistance leader Pierre Le Feu, and together with assistant Le Duc decides to hijack Le train and drive it to Le Town held by Le Allies.
In principle there's a nice enough amount of action in this brand-new release from Sydney (Dambusters, Ace of Aces). The Train involves riding around on the train, rat-a-tatting Messerschmitts with machine guns, sinking boats that guard bridges, capturing stations and whatnot, where you get to fire away with the train's cannons and machine guns. Far too much of the time, though, goes on just riding the train.
In places, Train has excellent graphics. The movement of the train and the attacking planes, for example, are excellent, but the gunboats are pretty pathetic. Since the action takes place at night, the palette in use is chromatically confined strictly to shades of grey. On the sound side, the clickety-clack of the train comes off quite well; otherwise the effects don't exactly sweep you off your feet.
The Train is a 'nice enough' game, but not much more than that. I think back wistfully on such Accolade classics as Psi-5 Trading Co.
