Target; Renegade
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1988Keskiolutkommandojen suosikkipeli, Renegade, on poikinut lisää moraalisesti arveluttavaa videoviihdettä.
Grafiikka on todella erinomaista.
1988The favourite game of the lager-lout commandos, Renegade, has spawned more morally dubious video entertainment.
The previous Renegade came a cropper. Mr Big took him prisoner, but luckily he has a little brother who can handle himself in a fight. Surprise, surprise, the kid brother sets off after Mr Big on a brother-liberation mission. Along the way biker gangs, women and skinheads get smashed up, and even a rock band eats a knuckle sandwich before the brothers make it home.
Was I ever tied in knots with amazement once the game had loaded. I was expecting a stiff and angular product like the previous Renegade, but Target; Renegade was a pleasant surprise.
Right around the point where I'd kicked a moped man off his bike and walloped a hooligan across the chops, and the hooligan's sneaky mate grabbed me by the throat and the pair of them laid into my face with a baseball bat, I realised something. Gosh, this is actually a fun game!
The graphics are truly excellent. The sprites are designed extraordinarily well and the animation is smooth. All 16 moves are handled with a single joystick, without using the keyboard (as in the predecessor), and playing is fun. Another plus is that the hero can make use of weapons. The sound effects could have done with some polishing, though, and the tune rolling along in the background isn't much of a thrill either.
Summa summarum, Target; Renegade is an excellent arcade conversion, which proves that even the Commodore 64 can turn out decent work, as long as you can be bothered to make the effort.
