Rastan

Miten on mahdollista, ettei taustan scrollausta saa tahdistettua hahmon tallusteluun?

1988In brief: Rastan, king and hero, gets it into his head to tell the future from the entrails of the evil wizard Karg. The latter, you see, has been plaguing the whole kingdom by, among other things, abolishing the violence tournaments and generally being a right nuisance. On the way to Karggila Rastan has to hack up a whole bunch of the wizard's minions, so there should be no shortage of fun. If and when Rasta-N. makes it to the wizard's gate to yell 'Trick or Karggi!', the dirty-fighting wizard turns up in the form of a dragon. The final battle can begin.

The animation has one flaw that has been bugging me for ages. How is it possible that nobody can get the background scrolling in sync with the character's plodding? Otherwise, too, Rastan's graphics aren't up to much. On level two the sprites get lost in the backgrounds, and so on and so forth.

At first Rastan seemed quite a pleasant acquaintance. You could even continue the game from where you died, if you wanted. But alas! the playtesting has been forgotten. Even a butterfingers like me got to the second level easily, but then came the end. Rastan is supposed to get across a lava lake with the help of three swinging ropes. After a hundred rastans I hung up my gloves - and myself, from a rope. The program probably has a bug too, since if death comes on level two the game always starts from there. Nice otherwise, but the lava lake episode comes a minute into the game. And all the magic weapons are on level one.

No, Rastan is not much of a game at all. Playtesting would have helped a lot, since all the ingredients of an interesting game are certainly there. As it is, the only good memories left are the lovely loading screen and loading music.
