Phantasm
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Jotenkin peli on onnistuttu saamaan hirvittävän hitaaksi! Ohjaus on laiska ja yliohjautuva, ja vektorigrafiikka vierii hitaasti nykien pitkin ruutua. Nähtyäni pelin aloin epäillä koneeni kuntoa. Kokeilu muilla koneilla pelasti minut koneen huoltoon heivaamiselta: Phantasm ON kertakaikkisen hidas.
1988Exocet (exocet is also the name of a naval missile) is a company whose first two games have not, by their quality, done much to guarantee it a rosy future. Exocet's predicament is made worse by its stubborn but admirable principle of making its games only for 16-bit machines, whose market is not yet very big compared with the market for the 8-bit 'old-timers'. Its first release, Foundations Waste, was an all-too-ordinary shoot-'em-up for the Amiga and ST, and did not win the impartial backing of a single computer magazine.
Phantasm is set in the distant future and puts the player at the controls of the HM Pegasus. At the start of the game you are fleeing in your ship at a breakneck pace from the dreaded taxman. (That future doesn't feel all that distant after all...) Suddenly someone or something grabs you in its tractor beam and drags you by force to the moon of some planet. To buy back your freedom you have to destroy eight bases scattered around the moon. To help you out, the ship carries missiles, lasers and the rest of the usual props you would generally expect from a game like this.
The layout of the on-screen gauges and other instruments has been stolen straight from CRL's Tau Ceti. The instrument panel graphics are a feast for the eyes and the title music is up to the Amiga's usual high standard. Playability, and with it interest, is then a whole different matter. Somehow they have managed to make the game horrendously slow! The controls are sluggish and oversteer, and the vector graphics crawl jerkily across the screen. After seeing the game I began to doubt the health of my machine. Trying it on other machines saved me from hauling mine off to be repaired: Phantasm IS downright slow.
Phantasm is an even worse effort than Foundations Waste, and Exocet will have to raise its game considerably if it doesn't want to end up among all the other dead games companies.
