1988Jälleen me raukat kuolevaiset saamme seurata kelpo He-Manin taisteluja kelmeää Skeletoria vastaan seikkailussa, joka nostaa karvat pystyyn muovinukeltakin.
He-Man on ruudussa nähty aikaisemminkin kiitos U.S. Goldin, mutta lisenssimaailman merkillisyyksien takia oikeudet Masters of The Universe -elokuvaan on siirretty Gremlinille.
Yllättäen peli ei sijoitukaan Eternian tarumaailmaan, vaan nykyajan New Yorkiin.
Keittoon on mausteeksi sotkettu lukuisia erilaisia pelityyppejä, mutta yleensä He-Man hortoilee pitkin New Yorkin katuja ja ammuskelee ilmasta poksahtelevia skeletorilaisia parhaaseen Gauntlet-tyyliin.
Kutsun saatuaan voi He-Man yrittää törmätä johonkin lukuisista alipeleistä. Näitä on mm. Fist-tyylinen mini-beat'em-up ja Prohibition-tyylinen shoot'em-up.
Toteutus on Gremlinin tapaan siistiä ja ammattitaitoista, mutta peli itse jätti jätti vähän tyhjän olon. En jaksanut hermostua enkä innostua. Innokas Masters-mies jaksanee ihailun voimalla peliä pelata, muiden kannattaa suhtautua varauksella.
1988Once again we poor mortals get to follow the worthy He-Man's battles against the pallid Skeletor, in an adventure that would make the hair stand on end even on a plastic doll.
He-Man has been seen on screen before, thanks to U.S. Gold, but owing to the oddities of the licensing world the rights to the Masters of The Universe film have been transferred to Gremlin.
Surprisingly, the game isn't set in the fabled world of Eternia after all, but in present-day New York. In the film the reason was presumably saving money on sets.
The objective: He-Man has to find the chords from which the Key can be assembled, defeat Skeletor and save both his good name and the world. So there you go.
Gremlin have certainly tried hard. Numerous different game types have been stirred into the soup as seasoning, but mostly He-Man blunders about the streets of New York shooting Skeletorites that pop out of thin air, in the best Gauntlet style. With the help of the map in the instructions G-Man ought to be able to find his way to wherever he wants to go, but only in theory. Luckily, pressing space brings up a usable map (not mentioned in the instructions!).
On receiving a call, He-Man can try to bump into one of the numerous sub-games. These include a Fist-style mini beat'em-up and a Prohibition-style shoot'em-up.
The execution is, as usual with Gremlin, neat and professional, but the game itself left me feeling a bit empty. I couldn't be bothered to get annoyed, or excited either. A keen Masters man will probably keep playing on the strength of sheer adoration; everyone else should approach it with reservations.
