Masters of The Universe
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Grayskullin linnan valtias Skeletor uhkaa maailmaa, jollei He-Man pysty hänen kavalia aikeitaan ehkäisemään. Nukkemaailman Arnold Scwarzeneggerin on tuhottava kivi, josta Skeletor imee maagisen voimansa ja pelastettava uskollinen Orko. Kuka voittaa?
Todennäköisimmin U.S. Gold. Children of the Universe ryntäävät sankkoina joukkoina kauppoihin avustaakseen sankariaan kamppailussa äärimmäistä pahaa vastaan. U.S. Goldin aarrearkut täyttyvät ja Skeletor saa mahtavan bonuksen.
Masters... on tavanomaista piirun tavanomaisempi tasohyppelypeli, joka perustuu kaikkien rakastamien muovinukkien seikkailuihin. He-Man voi tökkiä miekallaan Skeletorin porukkaa ja löytämällä hehkuvia esineitä pystyy miekalla jopa ampumaan. Conan ei moista olisi tarvinnut. Auta armias, jos teho haarniskasta loppuu! He-Man on sen jälkeen Dead-Man.
Vaivaa ei pelin ohjelmoinnissa ole pahemmin nähty. Spectrum-versiossa värien sekoittuminen on ehkäisty ympäröimällä He-Man mustalla neliöllä. Vaikuttavaa ohjelmointitekniikkaa! C-64-versiossa on yksi kehnoimmista ruudun vierityksistä vähään aikaan ja spritet ovat kummassakin varsin tavanomaisia. He-Man näyttää milloin She-Manilta, milloin Blob-Manilta.
Pelattavuus on varsin kurja. Lieneekö Masters... joku nokkela tekoälysovellus, kun He-Man itsetuhohakuisesti hyppii juuri silloin kun ei pitäisi? Skeletorin mahtava taikuus tappoi ainakin minun kiinnostukseni varsin nopeasti.
Henkilökohtaisesti en juuri pidä tämän tyyppisistä peleistä, mutta Aito Masters -fani saattaa murskata kalloni ja innostua tästä tuotteesta. Kaipa se nukkekodin voittaa.
Toivottavasti He-Man onnistuu ja saa Barbien ja puoli valtakuntaa.
1987Skeletor, lord of Castle Grayskull, threatens the world unless He-Man can thwart his treacherous schemes. The Arnold Scwarzenegger of the doll world must destroy the stone from which Skeletor draws his magic power, and rescue the faithful Orko. Who will win?
Most likely U.S. Gold. The Children of the Universe will rush to the shops in droves to help their hero in the struggle against ultimate evil. U.S. Gold's treasure chests fill up and Skeletor gets a mighty bonus.
Masters... is a platform game a notch more ordinary than ordinary, based on the adventures of everybody's beloved plastic dolls. He-Man can poke Skeletor's gang with his sword, and by finding glowing objects he can even shoot with the sword. Conan wouldn't have needed that sort of thing. Lord help you if the armour's power runs out! After that He-Man is Dead-Man.
Nobody has exactly broken a sweat programming this game. In the Spectrum version colour clash has been prevented by surrounding He-Man with a black square. Impressive programming technique! The C-64 version has one of the shoddiest screen scrolls in a while, and the sprites in both are pretty ordinary. He-Man looks like She-Man one moment, Blob-Man the next.
The playability is pretty miserable. Could Masters... be some clever artificial intelligence application, seeing as He-Man suicidally jumps exactly when he shouldn't? Skeletor's mighty magic killed my interest, at least, pretty quickly.
Personally I'm not much for games of this type, but a True Masters Fan might crush my skull and get excited about this product. I suppose it beats a dolls' house.
Here's hoping He-Man succeeds and gets Barbie and half the kingdom.
