Mask

He tuskin tulevat peliin pettymään enkä minäkään varsinaisesti ikävystynyt kuoliaaksi. En kyllä kuolannut rinnuksellenikaan.

Mask on hyvä peli nuoremmalle ikäluokalle. Ja ainakin Gremlin uskoo pelin menestykseen, sillä toinen osa on jo tekeillä (jollei valmiskin). Niin sitä pitää.

1988Like a cancer, the transnational symbiosis of plastic dolls and cartoons is spreading from Sky Channel both into our own barren snowdrifts-and-blue-skies land and into every other country as well. And this shows, if in nothing else, then at least in the dizzying growth in the number of games based on them.

Mask is about gallant men whose cars fly and who put on masks when they fight the criminal league VENOM. That's roughly what the game is about too.

VENOM (Boo!) manages to scatter MASK's agents across four time zones, but not all of them! Matt Trakker (Ta-da-da-daa!) and the wonder car Thunderhawk are left. Their mission is to locate MASK's poor agents and, as Le Grande Finale, blow up VENOM's headquarters.

As a game this means that Thunderhawk drives around the terrain collecting square objects. Some repair the car, some give you bombs, one is a locator, a couple are the agents' MASKs and the rest are code keys. The code keys have to be arranged so that they form a letter. Pressing this letter on the keyboard activates the locator, which shows the way to the nearest agent. Once the agent and his mask have been found, Matt Trakker can change time zone. Golly.

As a matter of fact Mask is NOT some hastily knocked-together rip-off, but actually a fairly original and well made game. In the name of objectivity I have to say that the game's target group is hardly my age bracket, but rather those who like MASK and the like. They are unlikely to be disappointed by the game, and I wasn't exactly bored to death either. Then again, I didn't drool down my shirt front either.

Mask is a good game for the younger age group. And Gremlin at least believes in the game's success, since a second part is already in the works (if not finished already). That's the spirit.
