Marauder on hyvin tehty ampumispeli, jota kuitenkin haittaa perusidean kuluneisuus.
1988Long, long ago an evil civilisation stole the jewels of Ozymandia and buried them deep beneath several defence systems on the planet Mergatron. The game throws the player into the controls of the Marauder tank, and the task is naturally to retrieve the jewels. Standing in your way are the defence systems, which are waiting impatiently for their chance to test how well the tank's armour holds up.
Helping the player are beacons, which give you extra features depending on what colour the beacon was when you shot it. The downside is that if you shoot a beacon at the wrong moment you can lose a ship. The lasers can also jam for a while and the controls can go haywire. On the plus side there's an extra ship, shields that last a short while and a bonus bomb that destroys all the enemies on screen at that moment.
The playability has been tuned just about right, but Marauder is still pretty hard. The graphics are slightly above average, as is the sound. Because of the game's difficulty the interest would drop off quickly, but the cleverly added beacon system balances that out. Marauder is a well made shoot-'em-up, which is held back, however, by how worn out its basic idea is.
