Eli vanha kunnon Commando-formaatti nostaa taas päätään. Ja mikäs siinä, kyllä kunnon tappopelejä maailmaan mahtuu.
Tekosyynä teurastukselle on kenraali Alexander Bonnin pelastaminen vieraan vallan käsistä. Grafiikka kuusnelosessakin on ihan kelvollista.
1988Ikari Warriors: the game nobody believed they would ever get to see. But come it did, just a measly two years late, or near enough.
The cover tells you what it's all about: two half-naked kids with sweatbands round their heads slaughtering everything that moves with grenades and assault rifles. So the good old Commando format rears its head once again. And why not, there's always room in the world for a decent killing game.
The excuse for the slaughter is rescuing General Alexander Bonn from the clutches of a foreign power. The Ikari soldiers can nail enemies not only with their obligatory assault rifles (two different firing modes, gosh!) and hand grenades but also with captured tanks. The Ikari Warriors, for their part, die not only from bullets but also by treading on mines, losing out to bunkers, getting run over by tanks and so on. Ikari is a perfectly decent game that's fun enough even played alone, but it's at its best with two players, and of course two assault rifles wreak more havoc than one. The graphics are perfectly acceptable even on the C-64. Admittedly the Ikaris look like the descendants of Lego men, but at least they stand out from the terrain. The ST Ikari is arcade quality, and the PC Ikari comes with an EGA version.
Ikari Warriors is a justified addition to the gaming world, mainly because there are hardly any other two-player commando games.
