Goldrunner

Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Goldrunner

Goldrunner tekee lopultakin oikeutta 32-bittisten grafiikalle.

Pelillä on tuttu tausta eli ihmiskunta on tuhonnut maapallon saasteillaan. Pako muiden aurinkokuntien planeettoja myrkyttämään on edessä.

1988The games that have been available for the Amiga have generally appealed more to brains and strategy than to a twitchy trigger finger. Goldrunner at last does justice to the graphics of the 32-bit machines.

The game has a familiar background: mankind has wrecked the Earth with its pollution. Next up is an escape to go and poison the planets of other solar systems. Before the departure can succeed, however, the space pirates' enormous ringworlds have to be destroyed, so that the pirates can't go plundering the colony ships.

The best pilot in the Solar System is picked for the job: Goldrunner, a smuggler who has been making a mockery of Earth's police and armed forces for years. Only nobody told Goldrunner that on the Amiga the joystick can't actually be used when it counts.

The program is a shoot-'em-up that is more ordinary than ordinary, with vertical scrolling, ground and air targets, and bonus levels. The graphics are dazzling, as is the Amiga's way, but small improvements here and there, mainly to add variety to what you can do in the game, would have done it a lot of good.
