Desolator
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1988Desolatoria mainostetaan isoin kirjaimin Halls of Kairos -nimisen pelihallipelin autenttisena kotikoneversiona. Miksi pelin nimeksi sitten ei ole laitettu HOK, sitä en tiedä.
Itse pelin idea on kuitenkin seuraava: olet Mac ja tehtävänäsi on kukistaa Kairos, itse Suuri Saatana. Siinä sivussa voit pelastaa Petereitä Kairosin rakentamien peilien takaa. Pelastettuasi tarpeeksi, muutut mahtavaksi Machomieheksi! Jummi! Machosetä pistelee sitten kaiken tiellään olevan pilkkeeksi, Kairosta myöten.
Totta puhuen Desolator on sen verran surkea kehitelmä peliksi. Grafiikka kärsii pahasti Lego-taudista, äänipuoli on kumma kyllä hoidettu kuntoon, mutta pelattavuus limboaa tosi pahasti. Toiminta on parhaimmillaankin sekavaa, eikä Desolatoria jaksa kauaa katsella. Virtanappula saakin kyytiä alle aikayksikön. Kiertäkää Desolator kaukaa.
1988Desolator is advertised in big capital letters as the authentic home computer version of an arcade game called Halls of Kairos. Why the game wasn't then named HOK, I don't know.
Anyway, the idea of the game itself is as follows: you are Mac and your task is to overthrow Kairos, the Great Satan himself. On the side, you can rescue Peters from behind the mirrors Kairos has built. Once you've rescued enough of them, you turn into the mighty Macho Man! Golly! Uncle Macho then chops everything in his path into kindling, Kairos included.
To tell the truth, Desolator is a pretty miserable contraption of a game. The graphics suffer badly from Lego disease, the sound side has, strangely enough, been sorted out, but the playability limbos really, really low. The action is muddled even at its best, and you can't stand looking at Desolator for long. So the power switch gets a workout in under one unit of time. Give Desolator a wide berth.
