Cosmic Causeway on juuri sellainen.
Cosmic Causewayssa on tarkoitus selvittää 24 ääretöntä rataa isolla pallolla aikarajan puitteissa.
Grafiikka on todella ällistyttävää.
1988Reviewing games isn't always a treat. Sometimes, after playing a hundred thousand badly made botch-jobs that all look like one another, you start to lose your faith in the future of computer games.
But as if on order, along always comes some original, fun and well-made game that breathes new faith into the doubting joystick wrist. Cosmic Causeway is just such a game.
Cosmic... is the sequel to Trailblazer, released last year, which got a good reception, and rightly so. Strangely, part two is even better.
In Cosmic Causeway the idea is to get through 24 endless tracks with a big ball within a time limit. Your progress is hindered or helped by holes and squares of different colours, which have different effects on how the ball moves. Some slow you down, some speed you up, some you can't get through, others make you jump and some reverse the joystick directions. On top of that there are walls with only one gap you can get through, and even the chance to race along the ceiling when there is one.
What's more, some Space Harrier has been stirred into the game, dragons and all, along with Nemesis-style collecting of power-ups. The result is a soup that not only looks good but tastes good too.
The graphics are truly astonishing. You'd hardly believe the C-64 could squeeze out this kind of power. The scenery races and swerves very convincingly and incomprehensibly fast. The sound is top-notch, and the Holy Trinity is completed by the playability. Cosmic Causeway is a very good game, simple enough but suitably difficult. It probably won't appeal to everyone, though, but it's worth a try.
