1988Nexus kokeilee siipiensä kantavuutta tuhoamispelien alalla. Edellinen yritys, Hades Nebula, ei saanut kovin mairittelevia arvosteluja maailmalla, mutta Blazer yrittää kovasti kiillottaa Nexuksen kilpeä. Ja onnistuukin siinä osittain. Idea on vanha ja turvalliseksi koettu. Isketään pelaaja-parka aluksen ohjaimiin ja lyödään vastapuolelle loppumattomat määrät erilaisia ötököitä. Mutta koska ideasta alkoi uupua potku, täytyi jotain uutta keksiä.

Ammuntapelit ovat alkaneet matkia Nemesis-arcadepeliä antamalla pelaajalle mahdollisuuden muuttaa alustaan matkan varrella. Keräämällä tietynlaisia ikoneja pystyy alukseen lisäämään vaikkapa tehokkaammat moottorit tai ärjymmät aseet. Blazer hyppää trendiin mukaan kohtalaisella menestyksellä. Grafiikka on komeaa, mutta vain taustojen osalta. Itse alus häviää taustoihin huonojen värivalintojen takia, eivätkä päälle vyöryvät vihollismassatkaan niitä kaikkein parhaimmin suunniteltuja ole.

Musiikki on mainitsemisen arvoista.

1988Nexus is testing whether its wings will carry it in the field of destruction games. The previous attempt, Hades Nebula, didn't get very flattering reviews out in the world, but Blazer tries hard to polish up Nexus's shield. And partly succeeds, too. The idea is old and considered safe. Stick the poor player at the controls of a ship and line up endless numbers of assorted critters on the other side. But since the idea had started to lose its kick, something new had to be invented.

Shoot-'em-ups have started imitating the Nemesis arcade game by giving the player the chance to modify their craft along the way. By collecting certain kinds of icons you can add, say, more powerful engines or meaner weapons to the ship. Blazer jumps on the bandwagon with moderate success. The graphics are handsome, but only as far as the backgrounds go. The ship itself gets lost in the backgrounds because of poor colour choices, and the enemy hordes rolling in on you aren't exactly the best designed either.

The music is worth a mention. Three different tunes, and all of them very high quality to boot. The tune that starts playing when the player throws themselves into battle is especially rousing and gives new oomph to the hand gripping the Terminator joystick. It's worth keeping the music on during the game, too, since the design of the sound effects was pushed into the background when the audio side of the game was being made.

The stylish title screen and good music give the trigger finger reason to get the game going at full tilt. The pretty backgrounds and rousing action keep the interest up for a good while, but the unclear icons and ugly sprites do their trick in the end and the power switch gets the boot. Nexus is improving all the time; the next release might already be a good one.
