Tomahawk
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

Pelissä on käytetty melko onnistuneesti kolmiulotteista grafiikkaa. Voit esim. pujotella metsän läpi tai vuorenharjanteiden välistä. Peli on tehty yhteistyössä asiantuntijoiden kanssa, joten lentäminen on todellisen tuntuista. Ohjeita ja teknistä tietoa on reippaasti, tosin englanniksi. Lentosimulaattorina Tomahawk on tutustumisen arvoinen.
Tomahawkin laiton kopiointi on työlästä, sillä se on perussuojausten kuten pikalatauksen lisäksi suojattu optisin keinoin. Jokaisen kasetin mukana tulee suojausavain, eräänlainen linssi.
1987You are a heroic combat pilot in the thick of war. Your mission is to destroy the enemy's tanks, helicopters and anti-aircraft guns. To help you with this you have the AH-64A Apache attack helicopter you fly, whose armament is staggering: a 30 mm machine gun, 38 ordinary missiles and 8 laser-guided ones. Your chopper also has, among other things, a navigation computer that points out targets, home bases and attacking enemy helicopters. With the target identifier you can tell your own hardware from the enemy's.
There are four difficulty levels, starting with flight training and ending with a combat situation in which you and your choppers have to cover your attacking troops.
The game makes fairly successful use of three-dimensional graphics. You can, for example, weave through a forest or between mountain ridges. The game was made in cooperation with experts, so the flying feels realistic. There is plenty of instruction and technical information, although it is in English. As a flight simulator, Tomahawk is worth getting to know.
Illegally copying Tomahawk is hard work, since on top of basic protection such as fast loading it is protected by optical means. Every cassette comes with a protection key, a kind of lens. With it you can read the code that appears on the screen, which then has to be tapped into the computer. You get three tries before the machine goes haywire and you have to start everything over from the beginning.
