Sydney Affair, The
Pelit was a Finnish-language (bi)annual book series published from 1987 to 1991 containing gaming-related articles, tips and most importantly game reviews. Here you can find all the reviews from the books. The reviews were originally written in Finnish; the English versions are translations of the Finnish originals.

1987Olet The Sydney Affair...hups, siis oletkin poliisi, joka saa tutkittavakseen Herra Sydneyn tapauksen. Joku tuhma epäsosiaalinen henkilö on rapannut läheisen kerrostalon seinät Sydney-paran pääkallon sisuksilla. Koska olit pomosi mielestä vakuuttava Vera Cruzin tapauksen hoidossa, määrätään sinut tutkimaan tämäkin murha. Eivätkö muut koskaan tee mitään?
Sydney on ranskalaisen Infogramesin toinen poliisimaailmaan sijoittuva peli.
The Sydney Affair on omiaan sellaisille, jotka antavat aivojensa toimia joystickin sijasta.
1987You are The Sydney Affair...oops, I mean, you are actually a policeman who is handed the case of Mr Sydney to investigate. Some naughty antisocial individual has plastered the walls of a nearby block of flats with the insides of poor Sydney's skull. Since your boss thought you were convincing in your handling of the Vera Cruz case, you are assigned to investigate this murder as well. Doesn't anybody else ever do anything?
Sydney is the second game from the French company Infogrames to be set in the world of the police. The first was Vera Cruz, which caused something of a stir in the world of crime-solving games. The Sydney Affair follows the same line in both plot and execution. A mysterious murder has taken place and you are sent to investigate it. Control is by keyboard alone, so there's no point expecting a wild shoot-'em-up or beat-'em-up.
On arriving at the scene of the crime you find some clues left by the murderer in the building opposite. You are not allowed to touch anything; you can only take photographs and leave the closer investigation to others. After that you return to your office, where you can use the computer to dig up more information about the case. You can also interrogate people who are somehow connected with the murder. You have at your disposal the reports on the autopsy and on the bullet from the murder weapon. Once you have drawn all the necessary conclusions you can make an arrest, but be careful not to arrest the wrong person.
The Sydney Affair is just the thing for those who let their brains do the work instead of the joystick. An austere detective game with everything it needs, which will keep your grey matter moving for a few evenings, and nights too. I also recommend it to those who put their trust in their laser.
