Strike Force Harrier

1987"I fly, you die!" huudan innoissani ja kylvän 1000 naulan pommeja tankkipeltoon. Kuin säestykseksi parahtaa taistelutietokoneeni ääneen. Ohjus lähestyy, bensa loppuu ja edestä tulee kolme Migiä. Korjaan, kaksi.

STF simuloi aitoja taisteluolosuhteita. Kaikki on mitä kuvitella saattaa, eikä edes pakki puutu. Nopean grafiikan ansiosta lentäminen tuntuu nautittavalta ja graafisesti SFH on muutenkin sieltä paremmasta päästä. Erikoismaininnan arvoinen on tajuttomuusefekti, joka simuloi jyrkissä käännöksissä esiintyvää veren pakenemista päästä. Kone lentää, mutta ruutu on musta. Keskellä ilmataistelua paniikin tuntu on aito.

Kaiken kaikkiaan Strike Force Harrier on kärkipään simulaattori, jossa ei heti lennä koneesta pois. Top Fun for Top Guns!

1987"I fly, you die!" I yell excitedly, sowing 1000-pound bombs across a field of tanks. As if to provide the accompaniment, my combat computer squawks out loud. Missile incoming, fuel running out and three MiGs dead ahead. Correction, two. One of them seems to have bumped into my second Sidewinder missile, hehe! Things look bad, but I'll pull through this yet.

The Harrier is one of the best ground-attack aircraft in the world and played an important part in the events of the Falklands. The Harrier is interesting in that it is a V/STOL aircraft, in other words it can take off and land vertically. This makes it possible to operate even out of a potato field. On top of that, by changing the direction of the jet thrust in mid-flight you can pull off some very interesting effects.

SFH simulates genuine combat conditions. The aim is to clear living space for your mobile bases and defend them against attacks, while still keeping the ultimate goal in mind, namely the destruction of the enemy command centre. Up against you are anti-aircraft missiles, tanks and MiG-23 fighters. They all number in the thousands, but then Battler Britton won the Second World War almost single-handed too. And he was only a comic-book hero, after all. Strike Force Harrier has quite rightly grasped that a simulator has to give you something to do as well. And there's action aplenty, from the ground to the heavens. To help you along there is such an abundance of gauges and gunsights that even the most demanding hi-tech man can't go wrong. It has everything you could possibly imagine, and not even the reverse gear is missing. Thanks to the fast graphics flying feels like a treat, and graphically SFH is up at the better end of the scale in other respects too. Worthy of special mention is the blackout effect, which simulates the blood draining from your head in steep turns. The plane keeps flying, but the screen goes black. In the middle of a dogfight the feeling of panic is the real thing.

All in all, Strike Force Harrier is a top-flight simulator that won't send you flying out of the cockpit right away. Top Fun for Top Guns!
