Space Harrier

1987Space Harrier on tietokoneversio Segan samannimisestä videopelistä. Siinä ammutaan yksisilmäisiä mammutteja ja muita kauheita otuksia koettaen samalla väistellä kaikenlaisia esteitä, kuten mm. puita, pensaita ja tolppia.

Pelin päähenkilö liikkuu maassa yksipyöräisellä tai lentää ilmassa. Tehtävänä on tuhota kammottavat hirviöt ja työtähän siinä saa tehdä.

Grafiikka on silmiähivelevän hienosti tehty, samoin kolmiulotteinen vaikutelma.

Loistavan toteutuksen ansiosta mielenkiinto Space Harrieria kohtaan säilynee kauan, vaikka peli perusidealtaan onkin varsin tavanomainen.

1987Space Harrier is the computer version of Sega's video game of the same name. In it you shoot one-eyed mammoths and other dreadful creatures while trying to dodge all sorts of obstacles, such as trees, bushes and posts, among other things.

The game's hero moves along the ground on a unicycle or flies through the air. The task is to destroy the hideous monsters, and you certainly have your work cut out doing it.

The graphics are a real feast for the eyes, and so is the three-dimensional effect. The colours are perhaps a little garish in places, but they don't get in the way too badly.

At first it takes some getting used to keeping up with the fast scrolling, but practice helps here too.

Once far enough into the first level, the hero gets a trial of strength against a two-headed dragon or a robot blasting away with an ion cannon.

The next level then has even fiercer creatures in store.

Thanks to its brilliant execution, interest in Space Harrier should hold up for a long time, even though the game's basic idea is fairly run-of-the-mill.
